CEB opened doors to the community of Braga to make known the world of science

Presentations and experiences in the food, health, environmental and industrial sectors marked the initiative.

Observing the microorganisms and the materials that help us clean up the environment, creating super factories of microorganisms, discovering which bacteria produce biological energy and learning how to control hospital infections were some of the activities of CEB’s Open Day. The 16 laboratories of one of the largest research centers of UMinho will be opened to the population of Braga to show the best of what is being done in the field of biotechnology and bioengineering. Saturday 30th, between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., the Centre will welcome all visitors who want to experience and get to know the scientific environment more closely.

The visits took place at the Campus of Gualtar in Braga, where several presentations and experiences were made, with application in the health, environmental, industrial and food sectors. Challenges and surprises were launched during the afternoon, and answers were given to scientific questions.

The Open Day, inserted in Science and Technology Week, is the culmination of a set of initiatives and workshops organized by CEB. With the main objective of bringing students closer to the reality of scientific research, this week enables the “kids” to embark on the adventure of knowledge of Biotechnology and Bioengineering, and learn what a researcher everyday life is all about.
