Civil and Structural Engineering in the top 200 for the seventh consecutive year

The University of Minho is among the 600 best higher education institutions at international level, according to the “QS World University Rankings 2022”, one of the most reputable and which has just been published. After having integrated for the first time the lists of this ranking in the 2018 edition, UMinho has registered a consistent and positive evolution, being already among the 44% best international higher education institutions.

In addition to this global institutional assessment, Quacquarelli Symonds had already positioned UMinho among the best universities in 12 scientific areas, in the latest edition of the “QS World University Rankings by Subject”, released in March 2021.

The main highlight concerning UMinho’s classification in these specific rankings was for the areas of “Civil and Structural Engineering“, which occupied the world “Top 200″ for the 7th consecutive year, and also for “Architecture and Built Environment”, in which the Minho’s academy was positioned for the second time among the top 200 institutions with scientific activity in this area. The ranking also highlights UMinho’s performance in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical and Production Engineering, Computer Sciences and Information Systems, Materials Science, Physics and Astronomy, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Medicine, Economics and Econometrics and Education.

In this edition of the “QS World University Rankings by Subject”, which is conducted annually by the company Quacquarelli Symonds, 1,453 institutions from around the world were analysed and ranked. In each of the 51 areas assessed a methodology was applied that combines the classification of a set of indicators that include academic reputation, reputation with employers and the impact of scientific research.
