University of Minho opens its doors online

“UPA Digital” allowed between May 5th and 7th direct interaction with the academy

The University of Minho opened its doors digitally between 5 and May 7, inviting 3rd cycle and high school students, parents, teachers and vocational advisors to interact with the community of this academy. The “UPA Digital” initiative took place at upa-uminho.pt.

How do you study and learn at UMinho? What are the disciplines and professional outlets of my favorite course? What social and excellence scholarships can I get? Which countries does the exchange take me to? And what sports and cultural groups can I participate in? These were some of the questions that candidates to higher education and other visitors could clarify in detail and in direct interaction with professionals from UMinho.

The School of Engineering integrated this initiative through the program “Chatting with…”, presenting research activities on stage and answering questions in real time. “Talking with…” brought together in the same room Course Directors, Student Groups, Former Graduated Students and companies in the area, in order to gather all the information about the courses. “After all, there are also good viruses!”, “Artificial Intelligence: the challenges of the future”, and “Discovering Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering” were the themes brought to the main stage, in presentation sessions with researchers, represented by the research centers Centre of Biological Engineering, Center ALGORITMI, and 3B’s Group.

The experience of the “UPA Digital” participants came close to what it would be like physically, allowing them to walk through the virtual stands and corridors according to their interests. Visitors were also able to access various resources (e.g., download brochures and watch informative videos) and interact via chat with faculty, staff, alumni, and students from the 59 undergraduate and integrated master’s programs.

“This is a unique opportunity to clear all doubts, but also to anticipate what academic life is like and what it is like to be part of UMinho,” said the pro-rector for Student Affairs and Pedagogical Innovation, Manuel João Costa.
