EEUM’s Online Graduation Book reunites thousands of former students

On 12 May, the School of Engineering of the University of Minho (EEUM) launched the Online Graduation Book of the School of Engineering.

The initiative, part of the School of Engineering’s Fiftieth Anniversary Commemorations Programme, aims to bring together in one place all the graduates from all cycles of the School of Engineering and create an interactive memory book of what will be one of the most memorable moments in the life of every higher education student.

The School of Engineering’s Online Graduation Book will thus allow any graduate to leave a message/testimonial on their graduation year, visualise messages from their classmates and course directors. It will also be possible to review the School of Engineering’s most recent graduation ceremonies (starting with 2020 when, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the School of Engineering reinvented the format of the graduation ceremony), and it will be the place where all future School of Engineering graduation ceremonies will be ‘eternalised’.

For Lígia Rodrigues, Vice-President and Chair of the School of Engineering’s Pedagogical Council, ‘this is an initiative that makes perfect sense, not only because UMinho’s School of Engineering stands out from other institutions for the closeness it maintains with its alumni, but also because nowadays everything is going through digital transformation, and in an educational institution like ours, we shouldn’t just have a repository for theses and articles, but also for meaningful memories like those that remain from graduation ceremonies’.

EEUM’s impact on the region, the country and the world can be seen in a number of indicators, including the number of people it graduates, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level, whether on courses that award bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degrees (1,700 graduates in total by 2024) or on non-degree courses. The School of Engineering’s first graduates date back to 1979.

The President of EEUM’s Pedagogical Council says: ‘Dear Alumni, register in the online graduation book and leave your mark on this collective memory. Celebrate the journey, revisit friendships, share the significance of this unique stage and inspire future generations with your story. This is your place in our school’s legacy’.
