On 28 May, the University of Minho and the Order of Engineers (OE) signed a protocol to strengthen the development of joint projects in engineering teaching and practice. Engineering & the Future” debate open to the public

This initiative is part of EEUM’s 50th anniversary celebrations and included the “Engineering & the Future” debate at the same venue. The guest speakers were José Rui Teixeira and Frederico Magalhães, with Fernando de Almeida Santos moderating.

José Rui Teixeira is an editor, poet, pedagogical director of the Colégio Luso-Francês in Porto and director of the Chair of Poetry and Transcendence | Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, at the Catholic University of Porto. He is also a member of the Instituto de Pensamiento Iberoamericano at the Pontifical University of Salamanca, the Centre for Research in Theology and Studies in Religion at the Catholic University and the Centre de Recherches Interdisciplinaires sur les Mondes Ibériques Contemporains at the Paris-Sorbonne University. His essays combine theology, philosophy, literature, art, anthropology and the history of culture and religions.

Frederico Magalhães is one of Portugal’s best-known technology CEOs. He was born in Zimbabwe and educated in Mozambique, Portugal and England, where he obtained his doctorate and co-founded the start-up Integral Vision in 1989. He decided to sell it (and swap a top career in the US) in order to recover the Mozambican textile Textáfrica that his father had built up in the past. He later founded the Portuguese company Sisqual, which specialises in software for managing and optimising human resources (Workforce Management). He has actively collaborated with charitable organisations in Africa, the Middle East and Europe.

Fernando de Almeida Santos is a member of the OE (2022-28), after having been national vice-president, president and secretary of the Northern Region. He has been a guest lecturer at various universities and is the founder and CEO of the company Tabique, having previously worked for the construction company Engil. He has a degree in Civil Engineering from UMinho, an MBA in Construction and Real Estate Management from the universities of Minho, Porto and Católica, a specialisation in Construction Safety Management and Coordination from Instituto Superior Técnico and a post-graduate degree in Senior Management from AESE Business School.
