Polymers Open Day brings together leading companies in the sector and students

On 6 February, the ‘Polímeros Open Day’ took place, an initiative promoted by the Department of Polymer Engineering that included the signing of protocols between the University of Minho and around 20 national reference companies operating in the plastics sector, to finance tuition fees for students of the Degree in Polymer Engineering, as well as a lecture by Filipe de Botton, CEO of Logoplaste, on the theme ‘An Entrepreneurial Perspective: Challenges, Achievements and Life Lessons’, activities that took place in the Noble auditorium of the Azurém campus of the University of Minho.

The Hall of Building 1 hosted an exhibition of various innovative products in the moulds and plastics sector, which was attended by hundreds of secondary school students in what was yet another initiative to demystify the ‘end of plastics’ and promote the Polymer Engineering course at the University of Minho.

The event also included training sessions for secondary school teachers and the speeches ‘Redefining Perceptions: Changing the Mindset in Relation to Plastics’, by Nuno Aguiar and Joana Martins Mendes from APIP – Associação Portuguesa da Indústria de Plásticos (Portuguese Plastics Industry Association), ’Indústria de Moldes: Positioning and Sustainability’, by Manuel Oliveira from CEFAMOL – Associação Nacional da Indústria de Moldes, and “Geology and Environmental Sustainability”, by Renato Henriques, professor and researcher in the field of Geology, from the University of Minho.
