Techstars Startup Week Guimarães took place from 21 to 25 October, for the first time in Portugal.
This event brought together more than 40 speakers in various types of activities aimed at entrepreneurs, future entrepreneurs, students and investors. From talks, masterclasses and round tables to visits to UMinho interfaces working in the field of engineering, Techstars Startup Week Guimarães was a unique opportunity for the ecosystem of startups and companies, both in the region and in the country.
The visit to the Azurém campus took place on 23 October, starting in the meeting room of the chair of the School of Engineering with a presentation by Fibremanics, DTX – Digital Transformation CoLab, PIEP – Polymers Engineering Innovation Hub and the CCG/ZGDV Institute, followed by a visit to the facilities of each of these interfaces. The visits to DoneLab and the CCG/ZGDV Institute could not take place due to scheduling reasons and are scheduled for the near future. These presentations and visits fostered networking among the participants and are expected to establish new partnerships and innovation projects.
The round table ‘Entrepreneurship in Industry: how it can be stimulated in order to boost business innovation’, which took place on 25 October, featured Marco Ferraz, manager of Galp’s Innovation Centre, Hélio Jesus, Head of Technology and Innovation at the Siemens group in Portugal and José Mário Fernandes, Executive Director of the Casais Group, and was moderated by journalist and broadcaster Fernando Alvim.
Techstars Startup Week also included a pitch competition for entrepreneurs and startups, which was won by the CibusAI project and runner-up eDynamics Technologies, both belonging to EEUM teachers, researchers and students.
This initiative had the partnership of the Municipality of Guimarães, through the municipal incubators of Set.Up Guimarães, Sítio, Startup Portugal, 351 Associação Portuguesa de Startups, ANJE and AICEP, and took place at Sítio, located in the MITH – Minho Innovation & Technology Hub, and on the 25th in the rehearsal rooms of the Jordão Theatre.
Techstars Startup Week Guimarães was part of the Guimarães City Council’s Economy Month programme, and the next edition is already promised for 2025.
Over 500 participants attended the week.
