Pedro Loureiro, a researcher at the ALGORITMI Centre, was awarded the Best Paper Award at the International Young Engineers Forum on Electrical and Computer Engineering (YEF-ECE 2025), an event held on 4 July in Lisbon.
The master’s student in Industrial and Computer Engineering, who is developing his dissertation at GEPE, was distinguished for his paper ‘Planar Transformer Design for a LLC DC-DC Converter with Variable Input and Wide Output Voltage Range’.
This paper ‘describes the design of a customised planar transformer for an LLC DC-DC converter, designed for fast charging applications for electric vehicles,’ according to the author.
‘It presents the converter sizing methodology, electromagnetic simulations, and the first experimental results of the transformer, highlighting the behaviour of parameters such as inductances, losses, and magnetic flux in a transformer optimised for high frequency, high efficiency, and a wide range of input and output voltages,’ adds Pedro Loureiro.
