Best high school students work with teachers and scientists of UMinho

EEUm welcomed 27 students from schools in the districts of Braga, Portugal, Viana do Castelo and Vila Real

The students with the best academic performances of half a hundred high schools in the districts of Braga, Bragança, Viana do Castelo and Vila Real were, from 17 to 19 December, at the School of Engineering to experience being students and researchers, integrated into international research teams.

The 27 students, from 11th and 12th years were welcomed on Monday, the 17th, in the Campus of Gualtar in Braga, by the pro-dean for Student Affairs and Pedagogical Innovation, Manuel João Costa. Thereafter, the young people developed activities in their areas of choice, such as micro technologies, biotechnologies and privacy and information security in the cloud, at the various EEUM research centers.

 

 

Rector was present at the closing session

The closing session was held on Wednesday, 19th, at the Campus of Gualtar, with the intervention of the Rector Rui Vieira de Castro. This year was attended by the presidents of the UMinho Schools and Institutes, the directors of the school groups involved in the initiative and the parents of the participants.

The “The Best Student at UMinho” program was conceived as an innovative approach to bring the academy closer to the younger ones, encouraging them to do quality higher education and cutting-edge research, as well as to raise awareness in the community in general of the knowledge produced in this University. The initiative counted on the total of 180 students, integrated in the other Schools and Institutes of UMinho.
