Alexandre Ferreira da Silva, Assistant Professor at the School of Engineering, participated as an instructor from 22 to 30 July in the Space Studies Program 2025 (SSP25), organised by the International Space University (ISU) and hosted by KOFST at Hanyang University – ERICA campus.
This year’s edition brought together 122 participants from 39 countries (including one Portuguese), promoting the 3x I’s (Interdisciplinary, International, Intercultural) environment dedicated to Space.
During the programme, the EEUM lecturer gave the following training courses:
– An elective workshop on building a TinyGS ground station to receive and decode satellite signals.
– An engineering department activity, where participants built their own CubeSat and designed a space mission around it.
In the words of Alexandre Ferreira da Silva, “SSP25 continues to be an immersive and intensive space summer programme, covering all seven academic departments, and a unique platform for meeting and interacting with space enthusiasts. It was also a great opportunity to reconnect with colleagues from previous editions, and a fantastic way to end the 24/25 academic year.”
During his stay in Seoul, the EEUM professor also had the opportunity to be received by the Portuguese Ambassador to Seoul, Susana Vaz Patto, at her residence, accompanied by professors Rodrigo Ventura (Instituto Superior Técnico de Lisboa) and Nuno de Carvalho (EEUM alumni) to better understand Portugal’s presence in Korea and the opportunities for rapprochement between the two countries.
