The first team of EEUM students dedicated to designing, developing, manufacturing and testing prototypes of electric motorcycles was born, with a view to participating in the international university competition MotoStudent.
Called MSUMinho, the new project brings together two dozen students from various courses, is based on the Azurém campus (Guimarães) and has the support of the School of Engineering of UMinho. Led by student Luís Coutinho, the collective aims to assert itself as a learning and development platform, allowing students to apply, in a real context, the knowledge acquired throughout their training. MotoStudent UMinho also seeks to strengthen the connection between students, academia and industry – involving different areas of knowledge in the development of the prototype – in addition to contributing to the design of engineering and electric mobility made in UMinho.
Compete in 2029
The team is in an early stage of prototype development, preparing the design, manufacture and validation in a phased manner, with the aim of solidly ensuring future participation in the 10th edition of the MotoStudent competition in 2029, which should have university teams from Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and Spain, among other countries. The jury evaluates criteria such as the work plan, the definition of the prototype, the electrical and battery schematics, the technical drawings, the innovation, the economic plan, the pitch presentation, the electrical checks and the eligibility of the rider.
