Guimarães Hospital finalist in the European Funds Awards 2025

The Senhora da Oliveira Hospital in Guimarães is a finalist in the first edition of the European Funds Awards 2025, in the ‘Smarter Portugal’ category, with its ‘Smart Hospital Infection Control’ project, considered one of the most innovative initiatives financed by EU funds.

The application is competing alongside four others: ‘CIMRLEIRIA.06.13’, promoted by the Municipality of Leiria; ‘Smart Farm 4.0’, by TOMIX – Agricultural and Industrial Equipment Industry; ‘Precision Medicine Centre in Oncology – Digital Pathology’, by the IPO in Lisbon; and ‘INNO4HEALTH’, by WISEWARE.

Developed in partnership with the Algoritmi Centre of the School of Engineering at the University of Minho and co-financed by Compete 2020, the Senhora da Oliveira Hospital project responds to the need to reduce hospital infections, identified as one of the main causes of preventable deaths in a clinical context.

Using artificial intelligence and data science, the initiative focuses on innovative real-time forecasting and monitoring tools, strengthening prevention and control capabilities in healthcare facilities. In total, the European Funds Awards 2025 highlighted 25 finalist projects across several categories.
