Representatives from the Centre for Digital Innovation, Accenture and Pathena, amongst others, were in Braga on 27 May
The School of Engineering at UMinho continued the celebrations marking 50 years of its regular Computer Science programme – a pioneering initiative in the country – with a round-table discussion that brought together figures from the business community and the innovation ecosystem fostered by the university.
The session was free to attend and began at 2.30 pm in Auditorium B1 on the Gualtar campus in Braga, with a speech by Raul Fangueiro, Vice-Rector for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Knowledge Transfer at UMinho.
The discussion then continued with Graça Carvalho, from the Centre for Digital Innovation at University College London; Hugo Portela, from Accenture; Jorge Brás, from Pathena; José Dionísio, from the Primavera Foundation; Nuno Ferreira, from Uphold; and José Pedro Magalhães, from Standard Chartered Bank and Chordify.
The session was moderated by António Nestor Ribeiro, director of the Master’s in Computer Engineering at UMinho. The closing remarks were delivered by Daniel Oliveira, vice-president of the School of Engineering at UMinho, followed at 5.00 pm by a visit to the exhibition marking this 50th anniversary, in the neighbouring building of the Department of Computer Science.
The celebrations continue on 2 and 3 June with the “Workshop on software engineering supported by artificial assistants”, involving students and various experts. A social gathering bringing together academics, students, alumni and companies is planned for 23 September, whilst a seminar on the future of research in Computing is scheduled for early 2027. The activities will take place on the Gualtar campus and are supported by the Algoritmi and INESC TEC research centres, the CeSIUM and NECC student societies, the Braga District Archives and various companies.
