Presentation “Artificial Intelligence (AI): social concerns, ethical proposals and political orientations”

The University of Minho in Braga hosted the public session to present the White Paper “Artificial Intelligence (AI): social concerns, ethical proposals and political guidelines”. The initiative, organised by the National Ethics Council for the Life Sciences (CNECV), featured a round table with experts José Manuel Machado (Director of EEUM’s ALGORITMI Centre), Maria Goreti Marreiros and João L. Vilaça, moderated by Inês Godinho and Miguel Ricou.

The aim of the debate was to stimulate reflection and propose relevant recommendations on this disruptive technology that is undergoing rapid development. How can we guarantee the fair, responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence in areas as important as health and scientific research? The CNECV thus invited the academic community and all those interested to reflect on the challenges of artificial intelligence, seeking to understand how we can prepare for the impact that this reality will have on our daily lives.

The opening session was given by the Rector of the University of Minho, Rui Vieira de Castro, and the President of the CNECV, Maria do Céu Patrão Neves. The closing remarks were made by Rui Nunes, Coordinator of the IA Working Group at the CNECV.
