To round off a week full of initiatives dedicated to interaction with the business community, innovation and the integration of School of Engineering students into the labour market, on 8 February the Graduation Ceremony was held for the 1,700 or so students who completed their courses in the 2023/2024 academic year.
This ceremony, which has great symbolism for the academic community, but especially for the graduates and their families, as it marks the end of a stage in their academic careers, or even its entirety, began at 10am in the Noble Auditorium of the Azurém campus.
The programme included speeches by the President of the School of Engineering, Professor Pedro Arezes, and also by the President of the Pedagogical Council, Professor Lígia Rodrigues, followed by the presentation of the Almedina prizes and the APGEI prize. The presentation of diplomas to the graduates was interspersed with testimonies from alumni Francisca Vale Lima, Luís Dias and Mariana Oliveira, and at the end of the ceremony it was time to listen to a speech by the new President of the AAUM, Luís Guedes, who is also a student at the School of Engineering, and the Rector of the University of Minho, Professor Rui Vieira de Castro, followed by a joyful performance by Afonsina – UMinho’s Engineering Tuna, and a Port of Honour served in the Nave of the Azurém campus.
The School of Engineering wishes the new graduates every success, remembering that this will always be your home. And as the President of the School of Engineering said: ‘Dream and believe!’
