The Summer School “Digital Transformation in the Wine Industry”, which took place from 30 June to 6 July at the Azurém campus of the University of Minho, welcomed a group of twenty students from four European universities: University of Minho (Portugal), University of Münster (Germany), University of Graz (Austria) and University of Pescara (Italy).
This intensive course, which focused on the digital transformation of the wine industry and wine tourism, emphasised the importance of a multinational and multidisciplinary approach to tackling contemporary challenges in the sector.
With a comprehensive programme including workshops, a hackathon and visits to local wine farms, this summer school was organised by the University of Minho’s School of Engineering, in collaboration with the “CodeAI – Collaborative development of AI capabilities in SMEs” project, and was aimed at master’s and doctoral students.
The aim was for participants to get involved in practical activities and collaborate on projects that address real challenges faced by the Vinho Verde sector, as Isabel Ramos, coordinator of this course and lecturer in the Information Systems Department at the UMinho School of Engineering, explains.
The challenges of intelligent agriculture and consumer involvement at Quinta de Soalheiro and Quinta da Raza were thus worked on by four teams of students and lecturers from the participating universities.
The initiative’s partners were ERCIS – European Research Centre for Information Systems, APSI – Portuguese Association of Information Systems, Quidgest, the Viticulture Commission of the Vinho Verde Region and Turismo de Portugal.
