School of Engineering held online ‘Job Days’ with more than 50 companies

More than a thousand visitors attended the three-day event with stands and company presentations, debates and sessions on inclusive and international careers

The Engineering School of the University of Minho (EEUM) held between 22 and 24 February the online initiative Employment Days, under the motto “Tomorrow Needs You”. The programme included stands from around 50 renowned companies with more than 500 career opportunities, as well as a round table with personalities from various sectors of activity, company presentations and sessions on international and inclusive careers.

The opening of the event took place on the 22nd, at 11 a.m., with a debate that gathered the president of the José Neves Foundation, Carlos Oliveira, the general director of Neadvance – Machine Vision, Teresa Martins, the representative of Bosch in Portugal, Carlos Ribas, the CEO of the Casais Group, António Rodrigues, the president of the Associação Têxtil e Vestuário de Portugal, Mário Jorge Machado, and the president of EEUM, Pedro Arezes. The future of engineering, emerging areas, the inclusion of UN’s Agenda 2030 in the companies’ strategy and what engineer profiles the market is looking for were some of the topics.

During the three days of the event it was possible to visit the companies’ virtual stands, network, get to know ongoing projects, interact with recruiters and send CVs.

The Partners Sessions took place on the morning of the 23rd and gave an exclusive stage to the companies Bosch, Grupo Casais, ZF Group, Primavera BSS, Continental and Borgwarner, which have been fundamental in connecting the students of the School of Engineering to the labor market. It was possible to get to know better the companies and their business areas, their recruitment processes, open positions and which are the profiles and competences they look for in new collaborators.

On the 23rd, the New Challenges Sessions brought companies that had never been to the last Careers Days editions, or that are working on new projects, or betting on emerging areas. The companies McKinsey IOTech, 4-Teams, Centro para a Valorização de Resíduos and Lovy were present.

The Inclusive Careers session that took place on the 24th, addressed the issue of inclusion of people with special needs in the labor market. This session was attended by the companies Accenture and Faurecia and had the testimony of Rute Araújo, responsible for the Administrative Department of CVR – Center for Waste Valorization.

The International Careers session introduced four EEUM alumni whose careers are being developed across borders. Eduardo Rodrigues, Ana Marques, Catarina Gonçalves and André Matos shared their international professional experience, leaving tips for current students who intend to have an international career as well.

“The Careers Days offer this year several possibilities to the academy and to society, with innovative themes that transcend the employment component. We hope, therefore, that they can contribute to broaden horizons and launch new debates and projects”, referred the Dean of EEUM, Pedro Arezes.
