CMEMS has a new management team

On January 11, the Board of Directors of the CMEMS Research Center – Center for MicroElectroMechanics Systems – took place. Professor Paulo Mateus Mendes was appointed director, and Professors Nuno Miguel Magalhães Dourado and José Luís Carvalho Martins Alves, deputy directors, for the triennium 2019/2022.

In his speech, Professor Paulo Mateus Mendes expressed his appreciation for the confidence of the members who have now taken office and assured that the whole team will do their best to continue to take the centre in the right direction: “We will work to have a good classification, Excellent that is always our goal. (…) We are going to work with the school and university bodies and with the departments, so that in two years we will probably be excellent again, after the next evaluation, which will certainly be excellent. Hopefully, we work for it, but it does not just depend on us … ”

  1. M. Mendes graduated in 1995, and obtained his MSc degree in Electrical Engineering, in 1999, both from University of Coimbra, Portugal. He obtained his PhD degree in Industrial Electronics, from University of Minho, in 2005.

He is an Associate Professor at the Department of Industrial Electronics, University of Minho, Portugal, and a researcher of group MicroNano Systems and Biomedical Applications. His interests includes Microsystems, RF Microelectronics, Wireless Sensor Networks, Biomedical Devices, Antennas, Neural Interfaces, Wireless Power. Paulo M. Mendes is Member of the European Microwave Association, of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society, and of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society.
