João Luíz Afonso re-elected Director of the Industrial Electronics Department.

João Luiz Afonso, Associate Professor with Aggregation, was reelected on January 11, director of the Department of Industrial Electronics, for the biennium 2019-2021. The management team also has Grace Maria Henriques Mina, Associate Professor of DEI, as deputy director.

João Luíz Afonso received the B.S. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1986 and 1991, respectively. In 2000 he received the PhD degree in industrial electronics from the University of Minho. Since 1993, he has been with the Department of Industrial Electronics, University of Minho, where he is Associate Professor. He teaches Electrical Machines, Complements of Power Electronics, Energy Systems, Quality of Eletrical Energy, Power Active Filters, and Renewable Energy. He is a researcher with the Group of Energy and Power Electronics (GEPE) of the Centro Algoritmi, University of Minho.

The EEUM’s Department of Industrial Electronics (DEI) develops teaching, research and community service activities Its main teaching projects are the Integrated Master in Industrial Electronic Engineering and Computers, Integrated Master in Communications Engineering and the Integrated Master in Biomedical Engineering. The main research areas are Control, Automation and Robotics; Electronics and Instrumentation; Power Electronics and Actuators; Industrial Informatics and Telecommunications.
