Eugénio Campos Ferreira, full professor at the School of Engineering of University of Minho, took office as Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation. The ceremony took place on the 11th at the Largo do Paço Hall in Braga.
Eugénio Campos Ferreira was born in 1962 in Esposende and holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from University of Porto. He has also done doctoral research at the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium), postdoctoral research at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain) and sabbatical research at the University of California San Diego (USA). He joined UMinho in 1991, where he is a full professor at the Department of Biological Engineering (DEB), director of the Centre of Biological Engineering (where he leads the research group Biosystems – Bioprocess Engineering and Biosystems Computing), He is member of the General Council of the University of Minho and Director of the PhD in Bioengineering in partnership with MIT Portugal Program. At UMinho he was also vice-dean of the School of Engineering with Research, Deputy Director of DEB and Director of various courses.
He is an advisory member of the Portuguese Engineers Order and a national delegate to the Biosystems and Bioprocesses Technical Committee of the International Federation for Automatic Control. He also coordinates the Bioengineering and Biotechnology PhD Scholarship Scoreboard of the Foundation for Science and Technology and is a regular evaluator of the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Agency, the National Innovation Agency, the European Science Foundation and the European Commission. He was also president of the National Council of the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering, secretary general of the Portuguese Biotechnology Society and editorial director of the magazine “Chemical Engineering”. He is currently on the editorial board of the magazines “Frontiers in Biotechnology and Bioengineering”, “Frontiers in Chemical Engineering”, “BioMed Research International”, “Brazilian Journal of Chemical Engineering”, “Chemical Product and Process Modeling” and “Environmental Engineering and Management” Journal. ”He has directed 14 doctoral theses and is the author / editor of ten books, as well as 190 articles and book chapters and 330 papers and congress papers.
