CMEMS team develops technology for tumour removal

A team from the Centre for Microelectromechanical Systems (CMEMS) of the UMinho School of Engineering develops promising technology for the removal of brain tumours.

The team led by researcher Hugo Dinis is responsible for the development of a light-based ultrasound system for tumour resections. This technology promises to provide neurosurgeons with greater vision and precision to remove the entire tumour without changing the protocol. The team has already carried out the proof of concept of the technology, having been one of the winners of the competition funded by TecMinho – iProof.
