Debate “Strategies for the Future of Higher Education” fostered reflection on the challenges and perspectives of Higher Education in Portugal

As part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho (EEUM), the debate “Strategies for the Future of Higher Education” recently took place, bringing together renowned speakers to discuss the challenges, transformations, and new perspectives of Higher Education in Portugal.

The event aimed to provide the academic community with different insights into the future of Higher Education and featured Olga PomboAlexandre Quintanilha, and was moderated by Luís António Santos.

Outstanding speakers
Olga Pombo, with an extensive academic and scientific career, stood out for her reflections on the Philosophy of Science, Education, and School, addressing the role of knowledge and interdisciplinarity in Higher Education. Founder and coordinator of the Centre for Philosophy of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, Olga Pombo brought an enriching perspective on the relationship between science, art, and society.

Alexandre Quintanilha, a renowned physicist and researcher, shared his multidisciplinary experience and his vision of the importance of knowledge-based policymaking. With an international career that includes the creation of research centres and innovative courses, Quintanilha addressed the challenges of Higher Education in a constantly changing world.

The debate was moderated by Luís António Santos, a professor of Communication Sciences at the University of Minho, who, with his experience in journalism and academia, conducted the discussion in a dynamic and engaging manner.
