The new management of the Department of Polymer Engineering took office on June 26 in the department’s meeting room.
In the presence of the President of the School of Engineering, Professor Pedro Arezes, the vice-presidents of the School, António Vicente and Raúl Fangueiro, the previous directors of the Department, Miguel Nóbrega and Gaspar Cunha, and various members of the department, Ana Vera Machado took over as Director of the Department and Sacha Trevelyan Mould as Deputy Director.
In his speech, the president of the School of Engineering thanked the outgoing board for their dedication and availability and stressed the importance of this department for EEUM, a department that is currently “small” in terms of the number of members, but which is historically important for the University of Minho, with one of the institution’s first links to national industry.
For her part, Professor Ana Vera Machado said she was committed, with the support of her deputy director, to continuing the work begun by the outgoing board, with regard to promoting the department, in particular the Degree in Polymer Engineering, and demystifying Polymer Engineering in society, given the widespread misinformation about plastics.
The School of Engineering wishes the new head of the Department of Polymer Engineering every success!
