EEUM alumnus creates platform for discovering Taverns

The group of friends is gathered, hunger begins to tighten and someone asks the inevitable question: where are we going to eat? Almost always dozens of searches on the cell phone, comparisons and a lot of discussion follow. Carlos Beiramar knew this routine well and, from there, decided to find a tool that would simplify the whole process. He called it “Where to eat?” And he defined a rule: the taverns appear from the closest to the farthest, with no reviews or payments to climb the list.

The creator from Braga is 29 years old and has a degree in Computer Science from the University of Minho. For now, he works alone in the development and management of the platform, which he reconciles with his professional activity. The project was born as a hobby, from a personal list of about 100 establishments, and grew with the suggestions of friends and users.

“I wanted something more direct: to open a website, see what taverns exist around me and choose one without having to go through dozens of results,” he told NiB. The platform was launched in early September and, according to the creator, already brings together 688 spaces in 194 locations in Portugal and Galicia, of which 138 are in the district of Braga.

The desire to make the choice easier was accompanied by another concern. On trips and walks through the historic centres, Carlos began to notice the repetition of gastronomic proposals that could be in almost any European city, when what he was looking for were restaurants with a more evident connection to the place, the food and the people.
