EEUM student stands out in International Mentoring Project

The UMinho-IMFAHE partnership has already involved 90 doctoral students and 75 professors/researchers

The sixth edition of the UMinho/IMFAHE International Mentoring Project has ended. This year, 20 doctoral students and 14 professors and researchers from the University of Minho, from various areas, were selected to join the Talent Network of the International Mentoring Foundation for the Advancement of Higher Education (IMFAHE), of which the University of Minho is a partner.

For several months, the students received personalized advice from professionals working at world-renowned entities such as Harvard, MIT and Google, accessed exclusive programs, courses and workshops and networked with professionals from all over the world.

Also in this context, students, teachers and researchers had the opportunity to work in international teams to develop innovative projects, with seven students and five teachers/researchers from UMinho winning the “Nodal Award Shark Tank” ideas competition.

The theme of the annual conference promoted by IMFAHE “The Great Impact of Global and Multidisciplinary Talent” marked the closing event of this edition, which marked UMinho as the most distinguished university, collecting a total of 10,470 dollars (9180 euros). The “Scarce” project was one of the most highlighted by the jury. Focused on the innovative recycling of construction waste, it involved students Catarina Libório Cepeda and Ahmad Fathi, the latter a PhD student in Sustainability of the Built Environment at UMinho’s School of Engineering.

Also distinguished were doctoral student Catarina Gomes Coelho, from “EmpathAI” (intelligent emotional support app), as well as professors Ricardo Franco-Duarte and Raul Machado, from “AI4Microbes” (platform that uses artificial intelligence to predict and formulate personalized microbial combinations), Filipa Ferraz, from ‘FlowGuardian’ (flood-resistant housing system) and Jorge Cunha, from “Transparent Bites” (reinforces media literacy and governance in the food industry).

Excellence scholarships were also awarded to Ahmad Fathi and Ana Raquel Dias for internships at McGill University (Canada) and the Regions4 global network (Belgium) respectively, with accommodation and expenses paid for a period of three months.
