Engineering highlighted at UMinho Research & Innovation Open Days

From 22 to 24 September, the School of Medicine, on the Gualtar Campus, hosted the UMinho Research & Innovation Open Days, an event that brought together researchers, students, companies, entrepreneurs, investors and decision-makers to make known the most relevant things being done at the University in the areas of research, innovation and knowledge valorisation.

Over three days, it was possible to attend debates, learn about technologies and prototypes developed at UMinho, discover entrepreneurship opportunities and understand how the research developed at the University reaches companies and society.

One of the great highlights was the Technological Exhibition, where prototypes, technologies and innovative solutions developed at the University were on display, including projects from the 25 Mobilizing Agendas, 18 of which involve the School of Engineering.

On the 23rd, the various thematic panels also included members of the academic community of the EEUM, starting with its President, Professor António Vicente, Professor Artur Cavaco-Paulo, CEO of Solfarcos, and Eng. Carlos Almeida, alumnus of the Department of Informatics and President of the CNCTI / Chairman of TAP.

InvestMatch, on the other hand, put UMinho’s projects and startups in contact with investors, creating opportunities to learn about new ideas, technologies and businesses with growth potential, most of which originated in the  School of Engineering.

On September 24th, the Business Guides took the participants to meet reference companies and projects, mostly founded or led by EEUM alumnus, such as PeekMed, Solfarcos, CEGID, Promecel and Casais, allowing them to get to know different professional contexts and the connections between the University and the business fabric.

The UMinho Research & Innovation Open Days were, therefore, an opportunity for the academic community to get to know the University’s research and innovation ecosystem better and discover new possibilities for their academic and professional career.
