José Mendes and Mário Lima in the new edition of “Engenharia & Arte”

On June 5, the public presentation of the 2nd edition of “Engenharia & Arte” took place, as part of the Commemorative Program for the 50th anniversary of UMinho’s School of Engineering.

This edition brought to the University of Minho the painting exhibition “Entre-linhas” by Mário Lima, a retired EEUM professor who, after a career in Mechanical Engineering, discovered a new form of expression and passion in painting. The exhibition was on display in the B-Lounge of the UMinho Library on the Azurém campus from June 4 until July 7. The exhibition returns to UMinho, but on the Gualtar campus, in January 2026, in the B-Lounge Space of the UMinho Library, where it will remain from January 6 to February 4.

In addition to painting, Engineering & Art brought literature by the hand of Professor José Gomes Mendes, CEO of the Mestre Casais Foundation and full professor at EEUM, with a remarkable career in engineering, politics and writing, who presented his latest book “The Sheffield Cell”.

The presentation of the works by their creators took place in the B-Lounge, in an informal setting, providing an evening of conviviality and interaction between various members of the School of Engineering who attended this presentation led by the Vice-President of the School of Engineering, Professor Raúl Fangueiro.

An evening in which Engineering met Art, revealing the most human, creative and unexpected side of those who build knowledge and transform the world!
