The second phase of the Minho Innovation & Technology Hub (MITH) in Guimarães was announced by the Casais Group on 22 September and focuses on the construction of commercial and service infrastructure and the strengthening of housing infrastructure.
António Carlos Rodrigues, CEO of the Casais Group, said that ‘with the installation of the National Centre for Advanced Computing, linked to the FCT and associated with the Deucalion supercomputer, we have achieved 100% occupancy at MITH, already bringing together leading companies and institutions.’
Located next to the School of Engineering of the University of Minho, MITH is an ecosystem that combines housing, technology and work, promoting collaboration, creativity and business growth.
Developed by the Casais Group, in partnership with the Municipality of Guimarães and the University of Minho, it is a hub that leverages the region and drives sustainable solutions for the challenges of the future.
The session featured speeches by Domingos Bragança, Mayor of Guimarães, at the opening, António Cunha, President of the Northern Regional Coordination and Development Commission, on the challenges of innovation in the North, Joaquim Carvalho, Municipal Director of Territorial Intervention, Environment and Climate Action, with the strategic vision for the European Green Capital 2026, Vladimiro Cardoso Feliz and Margarida Pina, from CEiiA, on sustainability and smart mobility, José Queirós de Almeida, DBA, Greenvolt, on the Renewable Energy Community (CER), Mário Fernandes, Administrator of the Casais Group, on industrialisation and the impact of the CREE Building system, Miguel Ricardo, General Manager of SITIO, and João Nuno Ferreira, FCCN, on the future of SITIO, and Antonio Vicente, President of the School of Engineering at the University of Minho, and Bento Aires, President of the Order of Engineers – Northern Region (OERN), at the round table on the alliance between academia and business.
For António Vicente, ‘due to its proximity and innovative concept, Mith is a structure that comes at the right time to strengthen the innovation ecosystem of the School of Engineering at the University of Minho.’
