On February 3, the inauguration ceremony of the Department of Informatics of the School of Engineering for the next biennium took place. Luís Manuel Dias Coelho Soares Barbosa, Full Professor of the Department is the new Director and Pedro Manuel Rangel Santos Henrique is the new Deputy Director.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Computer Science Department Auditorium, and was attended by the School of Engineering President, Pedro Arezes, and the School Secretary, Ana Paula Martins.
Luís Soares Barbosa is a Full Professor and Senior Researcher at the HASLab (High-Assurance Software Laboratory) research center in the School of Engineering. He is, since October 2016, Deputy Director of the Operational Unit in Electronic Governance of the United Nations University. He is the author of five book chapters, 25 articles in indexed journals and more than 60 papers in international conferences. He has taught Master’s courses and PhD programs at the Universities of Bristol (UK), Tartu (Estonia) and Beijing (China) and supervised several PhD projects. By Rector’s appointment, he integrated the group that conceived and implemented the “Joint Doctoral Programme in Computer Science of the Universities of Minho, Aveiro and Porto (MAP-i)”. He is currently the leader of the research group in Engineering and Quantum Software of the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL).
