On January 28th, CEB’s executive team took office with Professor Eugénio Campos Ferreira as Director and Professors Miguel Gama and Teresa Tavares as Deputy Directors, fulfilling another mandate.
In his acceptance speech, Eugénio Campos Ferreira thanked the confidence that researchers CEB placed in the management team, and said that this will be “a period of consolidation, present ourselves to these elections with a manifesto of intent which follows on from the previous, above all strengthening and improving conditions. As a priority, we have in fact the aim of improving our space conditions to accommodate our researchers, who are spread over 4 facilities and will be our main mission for this period. We would like to reach the end of this mandate with something more tangible, I do not say a new building, but with something referred … This in addition to other goals. Also to say that we count on the collaboration of the School as in the previous mandate, fact that I register with pleasure, the availability of the School to support institutionally and personally the Center of Biological Engineering.”
Eugénio Campos Ferreira graduated and obtained a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Porto in 1986 and 1995 respectively. He began his career at UMinho as a Guest Assistant in 1991 and has been, since 2010, Full Professor. Since then, he has been a member of the Coordinating Committee of the Department of Biological Engineering and Member of the Scientific Council of the University of Minho. He is, since 2011, Director of the Bioengineering Doctoral Program and since 2017, Counsellor of the Order of Engineers.
With a group of more than 300 researchers and a large number of projects and research projects in the areas of bioengineering and industrial, food, environmental and health biotechnology, CEB has been experiencing sustained growth, a tendency that should remain in this new mandate that is now beginning.
