New direction of the Department of Civil Engineering took office

Swearing-in ceremony took place on July 23

Rui António Rodrigues Ramos, Associate Professor of the School of Engineering, was elected director of the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC) for the 2020-2022 biennium. Jorge Manuel Gonçalves Branco, Assistant Professor at EEUM, is the new assistant director of this department.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on July 23, in the Department’s Meeting Room, where Pedro Arezes, Dean of the EEUM, and António Vicente, Vice-President were present. In his speech, Rui Ramos guarantees that the DEC will be aligned with the strategy of the School of Engineering, since “there are already effective elements of the DEC that contribute to the externalization and internationalization of the School, and the DEC already promotes modern and quality education. In the interdisciplinary approach and in the commitment of emerging engineering areas, we will try to identify collaborations”. Rui Ramos also thanked the trust placed in him by the department and the School.

Rui António Rodrigues Ramos is, since September 2009, Associate Professor of the School of Engineering where he started his duties in 1993 as Assistant Professor of DEC. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering, Planning area and Spatial Planning from University of Minho, since 2000. He is the author and co-author of four books, eleven book chapters and eight dozen articles in international and national journals and congresses. He has successfully mentored 7 PhD students and several Masters students.
