Advanced Grant awarded to Paulo Lourenço, Director of the ISISE Research Centre

Paulo Lourenço was distinguished with a 3 million euro scholarship from the European Research Council (ERC), the most prestigious and competitive in Europe.These grants are awarded attribution to individual projects whose selection is based on 50% in the researcher’s curriculum (must be at the top of those working in Europe) and 50% in the excellence of the project to be carried out, its degree of risk and the radically innovative approach, and the frontiers of science.

The researcher will develop in the next five years an innovative approach to assessing the safety of cultural heritage buildings when subjected to earthquakes.

In an interview with EEUM’s Communication Office, Paulo Lourenço talks about the importance of science communication in the preparation of the application – to communicate science effectively and in a timely manner.
