EEUM Aerospace Engineering at Eyes in the Sky

The School of Engineering of the University of Minho (EEUM) was present at the Eyes in the Sky fair, within the scope of Air Invictus, with a stand dedicated to the dissemination of its activities in the aeronautical and aerospace areas. This participation aimed to bring the public closer to these technological areas and to make known the educational offer and the projects developed at EEUM.

The initiative was promoted by EEUM professors Alexandre Ferreira da Silva and Eduardo Pereira, with the collaboration of a group of 17 students from different study cycles (undergraduate, master’s and doctorate) and from various areas of training, including Aerospace Engineering and Civil Engineering.

At the stand, several equipment and projects representative of the scientific and pedagogical activity of the EEUM were on display. Among them were examples of PROMETHEUS-1 and other educational satellites, as well as drones, model airplanes, an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) and virtual reality glasses, which provided an immersive experience inside the International Space Station (ISS). In addition, two 3D printers were in operation, which carried out, throughout the days of the exhibition, the printing of a model airplane, arousing particular interest among visitors.

In addition, a monitor displayed several projects developed in the areas of satellites, Earth observation and astronautics, allowing visitors to learn more about the research and development work carried out at the School.

The presence of EEUM in this event is especially relevant because it is an exhibition that brings together some of the main players in the national aeronautical and space ecosystem, including industry, and technology and innovation centers. Participating in this context allows not only to strengthen institutional visibility, but also to enhance opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing. For the students involved, these events are a valuable opportunity to establish contacts with professionals and organizations in the sector, contributing to the creation of their own points of connection to the scientific and business fabric.

Throughout the event, the stand captured the attention of several curious people, from young people interested in the educational offer to curious people attracted by the different equipment and demonstrations. The interaction with visitors proved to be very positive, contributing to the promotion of the aeronautical and space areas and reinforcing the role of EEUM in training and research in these fields.

The School of Engineering congratulates all students involved in this initiative for the successful representation of our institution in society, namely:
