Marisa Ferreira, an engineer who graduated from UMinho’s School of Engineering, was awarded the Engineer of the Year prize at the Contruir 2023 Awards, an initiative that honours the best in engineering, architecture and construction in Portugal.
Born in São João da Madeira and currently working with the company Afaconsult, Marisa Ferreira graduated in Civil Engineering from the University of Minho and also completed her master’s degree at the same institution.
Also this year, the author of the engineering project for the Lisbon Cruise Terminal was recognised with the Secil Engineering 2023 Award, a benchmark among distinctions awarded in Portugal in the field of engineering and which this year, for the first time, honours a female engineer.
The Casais Group, based in Braga, was honoured with three awards. The CEO of the Casais Group, António Carlos Rodrigues, also an alumnus of the School of Engineering’s Civil Engineering Department, received the Personality of the Year Award in the Construction category.
In addition, the Casais Group received the Public Project Award for the refurbishment of the lower deck of the Luiz I Bridge in Porto and the Private Project Award for the B&B Hotel in Guimarães, the first hybrid construction in the Iberian Peninsula.
The Construir Awards, an initiative of the Construir newspaper, aim to “honour and celebrate the effort and talent of companies and professionals from the various construction sectors”.
