Michael Oliveira, a 5th year student of the Integrated Masters in Physics Engineering (MIEFis), was awarded a scholarship in the “New Talents in Quantum Technologies” program of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (https://gulbenkian.pt/grant/novos-talentos-em-tecnologias-quanticas/ )in an undoubtedly very competitive competition.

The student is currently starting a dissertation on “Quantum Bayesian Networks”, under the guidance of Professor Luís Soares Barbosa, from the Department of Informatics.

This is the second time that the program assigns one of the eight scholarships available to a student of MIEFis, and in the first edition, in 2017-2018, the distinguished student was Afonso Rodrigues, with a work on verification of quantum simulations.

This Program is aimed at students in the 1st and 2nd cycle of university studies and aims to stimulate young people’s desire for research in Quantum Technologies, enabling the development of national competencies in this area.
