EEUM students finalists in the 6th edition of the Eco-Food Innovation Prize

The finalists of the 6th edition of the Food Eco-Innovation Prize, promoted by PortugalFoods, are already known. The aim of the prize is to distinguish entrepreneurship, good ideas and competitiveness in the national agro-food sector, bringing together and challenging students, teachers, researchers and industry professionals to reflect and create the products of the future, more innovative and sustainable, and that meet consumer trends.

From the vegetable egg, through the lupine nugget based on insect flour, to the organic iced tea with green tea from the Azores: there are 8 eco-innovative products, designed and developed by university students, which have secured their place in the final competition of the ECOTROPHELIA 2022 Award, organized by PortugalFoods, which takes place on July 5, at the Congress Center of Alfândega do Porto. The winner will represent Portugal in ECOTROPHELIA Europe, at SIAL Paris.

The finalist projects will be in competition on July 5 at the Congress Center of Alfândega do Porto, in the final competition of the ECOTROPHELIA Portugal 2022 Award, which has the High Sponsorship of the Presidency of the Republic, and will distinguish the winning product – which will represent Portugal in the European edition of this award, which will take place in October, at SIAL Paris.

The School of Engineering of UMinho and the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto belong to the students of one of the finalist teams, with the project “Às Manadas”, a lupine nugget with insect meal (larva Tenebrio molitor), bell pepper, onion and spices.

Organized since 2017 by PortugalFoods, the ECOTROPHELIA Portugal Award has the High Sponsorship of the Presidency of the Republic and takes place with the support of several entities of the national agrifood sector. This initiative aims, in addition to recognizing the merit, innovation and entrepreneurship of university students, to promote the approach of the Technological and Scientific System to the Agro-Food sector, fostering closer relations, the creation of partnerships and value.

The ECOTROPHELIA Portugal Award is part of the European competition that annually brings together the winning teams from more than a dozen countries to choose the winning project.
