José Vieira, full professor of the School of Engineering, spoke in the plenary session of the “UN 2023 Water Conference”, of the United Nations, in New York, on March 23, as President of the World Federation of Engineering Organization (WFEO).
Also in this context, and in partnership with the International Science Council (ISC), WFEO organized the parallel session “The Role of the Science and Technology (S&T) Community on the Pillars for Accelerating Progress and Transformative Actions on SDG 6“.
This parallel session aimed to highlight the best and latest scientific knowledge, key initiatives and innovations of the S&T community under the five pillars – financing, data and information, capacity building, innovation and governance – that will lead to accelerated and transformative action on SDG 6 in the second half of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”. All the information about the participants in this event and the topics covered can be found here.
“Uniting the world for water” was the motto of this conference, the first UN water conference in a generation, co-hosted by the governments of Tajikistan and the Netherlands, intended as a defining moment to mobilize member states, the UN system and stakeholders to take action and bring successful solutions on a global scale. To catalyze action, the Conference sought voluntary commitments, galvanized by the Program, to the Water Action Agenda.
