EEUM professors deepen cooperation with Zhuhai Institute of Science and Technology

On May 10, UMinho School of Engineering professors João Monteiro and Adriano Tavares visited the Zhuhai Institute of Science and Technology in Singapore, China, together with another delegation from an Italian university. The aim of this visit was to deepen inter-school cooperation and continue to promote a new round of cooperation between the school and universities in Italy and Portugal in the fields of joint scientific research, the exchange of teachers and students and doctoral training.

On the morning of May 10, Liu Ming, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of the university, met with the visiting guests. Vice President Cheng Chunmei, Dean of the School of Computer Science Liang Yanchun, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office Dong Yan, Vice Dean of the School of Computer Science Li Dalin, and Deputy Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office Li Zi attended the discussion. At the beginning of the meeting, Liu Ming warmly welcomed the visit of the delegations of the two universities, introduced the development profile of our university, reviewed the history of cooperation with the two universities and the main achievements. Liu Ming pointed out that scientific and technological innovation is an important engine for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. He hoped that under this development opportunity, our university, the University of Trento in Italy, and the University of Minho in Portugal could make full use of the good cooperation foundation in the field of computer science, further deepen inter-school exchanges and cooperation, expand the breadth of cooperation, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. Joao L. Monteiro said that the University of Minho and Zhuhai University of Science and Technology have a long-term and stable cooperative friendship, and hope to deepen the exchange of teachers and students, scientific research and other aspects of the two universities in the new round of cooperation, and continue to explore more opportunities for collaborative development. At the meeting, all parties also expressed the hope that this visit can be used as an opportunity to explore the establishment of a tripartite cooperation mechanism on the premise of sharing resources and complementing each other’s advantages.

On the afternoon of May 10, our school held a symposium on cooperation projects with representatives from the University of Trento in Italy and the University of Minho in Portugal.

At the beginning of the meeting, Cheng Chunmei briefly introduced the projects between our school and the University of Trento in Italy and the University of Minho in Portugal, and expressed the hope that all parties participating in the meeting could make full use of this discussion to strengthen docking exchanges and promote practical cooperation. At the meeting, our school’s School of Computer Science, Personnel Office, Academic Affairs Office, International Exchange and Cooperation Office, and representatives from the two schools had a detailed discussion on the details of the project cooperation such as curriculum setting, credit docking, student dispatch, and teacher training, and reached a number of agreements consensus.

On May 12, the visiting delegation, accompanied by Liang Yanchun, Dean of the School of Computer Science, Zhao Chengguo, Director of the Research Office, Li Dalin, Vice Dean of the School of Computer Science, and Li Zi, Deputy Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, visited Zhuhai Maike Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. Miao Keliang, Chairman of Zhuhai Maike Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., warmly received the delegation, and then the two sides held a discussion on issues related to industry-university-research cooperation.

Our school established cooperation with the University of Minho in Portugal and the University of Trento in Italy in 2016 and 2018 respectively. During this period, our school and the two schools have exchanged visits many times, formed a close and pragmatic cooperative relationship, established a stable and good cooperative friendship, and achieved remarkable cooperation results in the fields of scientific research cooperation and doctoral training. The visit of the delegations of the University of Trento in Italy and the University of Minho in Portugal not only further deepened the inter-school cooperation relationship, but also laid a good foundation for a new round of cooperation with our school. The school will continue to work with the two schools to effectively promote cooperation in the fields of scientific research, teacher-student exchanges, doctoral training, etc., and actively contribute to the high-quality development of the school.
