The LAR@Home team from the Automation and Robotics Laboratory at the University of Minho’s School of Engineering in Guimarães has secured first place in the RoboCup@Home league
This was achieved at the RoboCup Portuguese Open 2024, which took place between 2nd and 5th May in Paredes de Coura.
In one of the competitions, the RoboCup@Home league, robots have to carry out domestic tasks such as carrying bags, serving breakfast, waiting on tables or ensuring that certain rules are followed in the house.
It was with the CHARMIE robot (A Collaborative Healthcare and Home Service and Assistant Robot for Elderly Care), which recognises vocal commands and responds with a friendly face, has locomotion with four omnidirectional wheels, has an arm to pick up objects and always knows where it is in the house, that the LAR@Home team from the Automation and Robotics Laboratory at the University of Minho’s School of Engineering won the trophy.
This robot is being prepared to take part in the world championship, RoboCup 2024, which is taking place this year in Eindhoven, Holland, from 17 to 21 July.
Congratulations to Charmie and all the team who have trained him so well!
