Last May 26, the School of Engineering received a delegation of idD Portugal Defence and the Portuguese Navy with the purpose of knowing the EEUM research centres, as well as some interfaces of UMinho and, simultaneously, disclose some opportunities in the Defence Economy, especially in NATO and in the European Defence Agency.
The delegation was composed by Catarina Nunes (President of the Board of Directors), Miguel Pinto (Director of Knowledge Valorization), Carlos Madeira (Director of Defence Economics, on behalf of idD Portugal Defence, and Commander João Piedade (Head of the Innovation Division of the Navy Staff), and Commander Lara Martins (Innovation Division of the Navy Staff) on behalf of the Portuguese Navy.
The visit started with a brief meeting in the meeting room of the Engineering School Presidency, followed by a visit to the DTx – Digital Transformation CoLab, to the Research Centres ALGORITMI, METRICS, and CTAC, in the morning. After lunch, the delegation visited the ISISE and 2C2T Research Centres, as well as Fibrenamics and the Textile Engineering Department, followed by the IPC, and the CCG and TecMinho interfaces. Due to scheduling difficulties it was not possible for the delegation to visit the PIEP interfaces and the CMEMS research centre, which were scheduled, so a new visit will be scheduled soon.
