On November 20, idD Portugal Defence and the Portuguese Army awarded the “Army Tested” Qualification Seals to the “Active Clothing with NBQR Protection (PluriProtech)” project consortium, made up of the University of Minho (through the Fibrenamics interface, the Sciencentris spin-off and the School of Engineering), Latino Confeções, Tintex Textiles and the Portuguese Army.
The award was part of the Army’s 3rd Innovation and Technological Modernization Event, which took place at the Taguspark Congress Centre. This was further proof that Portuguese textiles can be an ally in the country’s and Europe’s military equipment.
“This project aims to protect against nuclear, biological, chemical and radiological threats, while maintaining high levels of comfort in an operational environment. The solution combines advanced fibrous structures with functional coatings, contributing to high-value applications in both the military and civilian sectors,” said idD Portugal Defence.
The PluriProtech project materializes in two garments (jacket and pants) made from a selection of fibrous structures, including cotton, polyamide and aramid, to meet the need to filter particles and radiological, biological and chemical agents, both on a macro and micro scale, “with a pore size of less than 200 nanometres”.
“Os fatos de proteção NRBQ incluem têxteis dispostos em multicamada integrando carvão ativado como agente absorvente e uma outra camada, separada fisicamente da anterior, para conferir proteção passiva”, explica a Fibrenamics.
