On March 19th, the board team of the Informatics Department for the biennium 2019/2020 took office, with Pedro Manuel Rangel Santos Henriques as Director of Department and Maria Solange Pires Ferreira Rito Lima as Assistant Director.
The Department of Informatics is responsible for the dissemination of fundamental and specialized knowledge in the areas of science and computer technology, with particular emphasis on Programming associated with Validation and Security, Intelligent Systems, Distributed and Hight Assurance Systems, High Performance Computing Systems, Software Engineering and Communications and Computer Networks.
Pedro Henriques graduated in 1977 in Electrotechnical/ Electronic Engineering at the School of Engineering of the University of Porto and in 1993 obtained a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Minho. In 2012, held the Aggregation Tests at the same institution, having guided more than a dozen doctoral theses. He is a researcher at the ALGORITMI Research Center in the area of Computer Science and Technology. He also works as a teacher and researcher in the areas of Program Comprehension, Visualization and Animation and Data Mining Preparation.
He was a Member of the Portuguese Association of Artificial Intelligence (APPIA) and Chairman of the Coordination Council between 2006-2007, 2008-2009 and 2010-2011. He was also coordinator of several research projects, as well as co-author of several book publications. He also contributed to the publication of numerous scientific articles in international journals.
