Award Ceremony for Scholarships and Merit to MIEC students

On March 27th, the Scholarship and Merit Award Ceremony was held to the students of the Integrated Master in Civil Engineering at the Azurém Campus.

At the opening session, Professor José Cardoso Teixeira, Director of the Department, referred the importance of the Scholarship Program to the Department of Civil Engineering, thanked all the companies and took stock of the first years of this initiative.

This was followed by the presentation of a video with testimonies and statements from the representatives of the companies that “sponsored” the first students that benefit from this program, of the respective students and teachers of these students in the Civil Engineering Department.

Thereafter, the Vice-President of the School of Engineering and President of the Pedagogical Council, Professor Rosa Maria Vasconcelos took the floor and mentioned in her speech that the statements of companies and students were the best testimony of the success that the program was having and thanked to all companies for participation in the training of students.

The signing of the contracts and the delivery of the scholarships were then signed by the companies CJR – Cândido José Rodrigues, SA, couples – Engenharia e Construção SA, Costeira – Engenharia e Construção, SA, DST – Domingos da Silva Teixeira, SA , Mota-Engil, SGPS, ABB- Alexandre Barbosa Borges, SA, Ascendi, Tabique Engenharia, Lda., Top-Informática, Lda.

In the end, to close the session, spoke the President of the School of Engineering, Professor João L. Monteiro, who began by congratulating the students and the companies, thanking the latter “for having aligned in this partnership, which I hope will continue. We have new challenges in the School of Engineering, which are always linked to the business fabric, is something that is in our DNA, and these challenges necessarily go through the training of human resources, “noting that companies need human resources with different types of training and specialization and also the recycling of knowledge throughout the professional life “for this the Department of Civil Engineering has had an excellent performance on offering a huge variety of masters. He also mentioned that the EEUM Presidency would like to extend this collaboration with companies to the teaching activity “because we can have subjects taught by specialists / technicians of the companies … but also in the more advanced areas of master’s thesis and doctoral theses, we are open to the possibility that – not only in the area of civil engineering but in all areas – companies propose projects that may become master’s dissertations or doctoral theses.”
