António Cunha chairs the Crisis for the Economy Office of Guimarães

First meeting took place on March 30

António Cunha, former rector of the University of Minho and Full Professor of the Department of Polymer Engineering of the School of Engineering is the president of the new Crisis for Economics Office in Guimarães. The aim of the municipality of Guimarães is to discuss measures to face the effects of this crisis.

The Dean of EEUM, Pedro Arezes, was also present at this first meeting, which took place last Monday, by videoconference. “Pandemic and economic crisis” was the topic under discussion.

“This Crisis Office, with the executive leadership of Professor António Cunha, will be a fundamental lever for the coordination of all efforts, European, national and local, for the relaunch of the economy of our municipality. This Crisis Office will have the competence to assess and reassess step by step the situation of the pandemic in its multiple dimensions: health, social, community, all of which will lead to the state of the economy and will condition the future of all. It will also accompany all the measures taken by the government and the European Union, proposing adjustments and new measures, creating local synergies that allow the people living in Guimarães to capture this support so that together we can resist the present and plan the future. It will also have the function of proposing additional local measures to the municipality, in cases where there is no central response or it is manifestly insufficient “, says Domingos Bragança, Mayor of Guimarães.
