José Manuel Ferreira Machado renewed his mandate as Director of the ALGORITMI Centre for the triennium 2021/2024.
The ceremony took place last May 5, 2021, online, and the inauguration was conferred by the President of the School of Engineering, Pedro Arezes. In this new mandate, José Machado remains accompanied by the deputy directors Maria Sameiro Faria Brandão Soares Carvalho, Paulo Alexandre Ribeiro Cortez and Jorge Miguel Nunes Santos Cabral.
In his speech, the director of the ALGORITMI Centre mentioned the difficult times the centre has been through, and praised the commitment of the entire team of the centre, calling it “exceptional”. For the upcoming triennium “the guiding measures will continue to focus on research and innovation, multidisciplinarity, internationalization, knowledge transfer, and improving the quality of results”, and “with LASI, we will have more and better opportunities to showcase these activities, making a fundamental bet on their dissemination. We are sure that we will continue to be excellent, with the collaboration of all researchers of ALGORITMI in building a dynamic centre, capable of promoting a scientific activity of quality and national and international reference”.
For his part, the President of the School of Engineering, spoke of the importance of the ALGORITMI centre and the work that has been done, as well as the representation that ALGORITMI makes of EEUM both in the Bosch-UMinho partnership, and in other aspects of connection with business and society, having finished his speech wishing success to the whole team and expressing the availability of the presidency of the School of Engineering to collaborate where necessary.
The ceremony was also attended by the vice-presidents of the School of Engineering, Professor António Vicente, Professor Estela Bicho and Professor Maribel Santos, as well as several members of the ALGORITMI Centre.
