EEUM student wins AlticeLabs Best Master’s Student Award

Magda Mendes Duarte, a former student on the Master’s Degree in Engineering Physics, is the winner of the “Alcino Lavrador Prize”, which is designed to distinguish the best final-year student on any Master’s Degree taught by the University of Minho’s School of Engineering. This is an annual award and has a monetary value of €2,500 (two thousand five hundred euros).

The launch of the Alcino Lavrador Recognition took place on November 26, an initiative that honors the best master’s and undergraduate students in the areas of Information Technology, Communication and Electronics (TICE) and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), from Altice Labs’ partner universities and polytechnics. The award pays tribute to the legacy of Alcino Lavrador, former CEO of Altice Labs, an outstanding figure for his leadership and dedication to innovation.
The winning students were selected by their educational institutions and accompanied by their representatives, receiving a prize of €2,500. This recognition reflects Altice Portugal’s commitment to valuing academic excellence and emerging talent, boosting the link between the academic world and industry.

The award ceremony took place on November 26 at the Estufa Fria in Lisbon, and it was the President of the Pedagogical Council and Vice-President of the School of Engineering, Professor Lígia Rodrigues, who received the award, given the unavailability of the alumna who is working abroad.

In Magda Duarte’s words, “receiving this recognition was a surprise to begin with, as I hadn’t followed the creation of this award, which was implemented this year. Having now learned about it, I feel, on the one hand, grateful to the company for creating this initiative that encourages students to work on their academic path and, on the other hand, pleased to have the opportunity to revisit the work done during my master’s degree and see it recognized.”

The School of Engineering congratulates our alumna Magda Duarte, wishing her a career filled with recognition and success.
