Beatriz da Silva Simões and Beatriz Silva de Freitas, Master’s students in Industrial Electronics and Computer Engineering were awarded merit scholarships by the E-REDES Top Women Scholarship Programme.

This E-REDES initiative aims to attract young women finalists of master’s degrees in the areas of Electrical and Computer Engineering, by awarding 12 merit scholarships worth 2 thousand euros each and participation in a mentoring programme and in recruitment processes for professional internships.

This first edition of the programme covered five faculties: the Faculty of Science and Technology of the New University of Lisbon, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra, the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of the University of Aveiro and the School of Engineering of the University of Minho, in which the students of the master’s degree courses in Industrial Electronics and Computers, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications and Informatics Engineering, and Information Systems Engineering and Management could apply.

According to E-REDES “the promotion of gender equality has been assuming growing importance as a way to promote equal opportunities in the workplace. For E-REDES, the programme aims to contribute to equal opportunities between men and women in the access to professional careers in engineering areas and, at the same time, attract younger women to its staff, ensuring greater gender diversity and qualified resources to promote the energy transition”.

The launch event for this programme took place on 6 December, at Central Tejo, in Lisbon, where our female students were present.
