FSUMinho makes its Formula Student debut and takes 2nd place

The Formula Student Portugal competition took place from 1 to 5 August at the Castelo Branco Motorsport Park (PDMCB), a unique facility in the country that includes several circuits for motorsport.

Formula Student Portugal is a new Formula Student event taking place in Portugal. Its aim is to stimulate the FS community in Portugal and become an established event on the European calendar.

It began in 2022 with 9 Portuguese teams gathered on a university campus in Lisbon, and in 2023 it aimed to grow into an international event, in a larger venue, hosting 30 teams for EV, CV (inc. Hybrid) and DV.

FSUMinho took part for the first time in this event, which brought together 8 different countries, 24 teams, around 100 staff members and more than 400 participants, winning 2nd place overall (Overall Class 2 – prototype class).

As Francisco Forte, Team Leader at FSUMinho, says, “this test assessed our business skills, engineering and planning skills, as well as our ability to budget and analyse costs. These are essential areas and skills that an engineer must have and develop if they decide to stand out in the professional and academic world.”

He concludes: “After two years of hard work, many mistakes and a lot of sacrifice, the results are in. Now comes an even more intense year in which we’ll be manufacturing our car, with the aim of competing internationally next summer.”

The UMinho School of Engineering congratulates the entire FSUMinho team, which did great honour to our academy at this competition.
