The University of Minho spin-off, KEEP SOLUTIONS, was the company selected in an international tender to implement a cultural heritage management platform for the Ministry of Justice. This portal will integrate a library management system (45 associated libraries), a historical archive management system (nine associated entities) and a system dedicated to the management of museum centres (eight associated entities).
These three information contexts (archives, libraries and museums) will be managed by the company’s products that are specifically tailored to the information management of these heritage and cultural areas. To facilitate access to all the information managed by these dozens of organisations, the project also includes the implementation of a portal that will allow information to be aggregated and searched from a single access point.
This project covers a wide range of institutions in this area of government, such as the Directorate-General for Reintegration and Prison Services, the Institute for Financial Management and Justice Equipment, the Judicial Police, the Directorate-General for the Administration of Justice, the Courts, among others. All of these organisations hold relevant information and require security mechanisms, as well as strict criteria in the handling of information and project management, which is why KEEP SOLUTIONS involved a large team in the project.
This project, which is the responsibility of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice, is being carried out under the Recovery and Resilience Programme – PRR, namely TD C18-i01.06 – Economic Justice and Business Environment, and aims to develop an integrated solution for managing various sources of information from the Ministry of Justice and the Courts.
KEEP SOLUTIONS was founded 16 years ago by two EEUM alumni under the guidance of Professor José Carlos Ramalho, a lecturer in the Department of Informatics, and is today a market leader in information management systems, mainly in the areas of archives, libraries and museums, as well as being a national and international reference in digital preservation systems, a topic that has gained particular importance in Justice since the publication of Ordinance No. 315/2023 of 23 October. The Braga-based company works with local and central government organisations, educational institutions and also has international clients such as the European Commission, the Swedish Police, the Estonian National Archives, the Danish National Archives and the Angolan Constitutional Court, among many others.
