On May 29th, in the DI-A2 Amphitheatre on the Gualtar campus, the new management team of the Department of Informatics took office for the next two-year term. Professor Luís Soares Barbosa remains as Director, and Professor Jorge Miguel Matos Sousa Pinto, Associate Professor with Aggregation in the Department of Informatics, joins him as Deputy Director.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by the President of the School of Engineering, Pedro Arezes, the Vice-Presidents of the School of Engineering, Antonio Vicente and Lígia Rodrigues, and the School Secretary, Ana Paula Martins, as well as various members of the Department of Informatics, the group of students, teachers, administrative and management staff, among others.
In his speech, Luís Soares Barbosa said that he had 3 main focuses for this term: the training offer, namely the new master’s degrees due to start in the next academic year, in extremely important areas such as artificial intelligence, advanced computing, data science and cybersecurity; investment in human resources (the need to reinforce hiring in general, with 3 full professors due to leave soon) and the communication of both the department itself and its training offer; and the reorganization of the department in terms of teaching and research areas/lines.
The School of Engineering wishes all the best in this new mandate!
